The Ancient Art of Holding the New Mother Ebook
This ebook contains rituals, reflections, and recipes for the fourth trimester (postpartum period) rooted in global postpartum traditions (primarily from my teachings in Asian, European, and Latin American traditions).
It is currently estimated to be available in late fall of 2026. It is currently available at the early bird launch rate of $35 (price will be raised to $55 once it is officially launched).
This book addresses the following questions:
- How do we integrate ancient ways with creating a new path forward and adapting it for modern times?
- How can I honour my ancestors while breaking cycles?
- How do I balance Eastern and Western approaches in my birth and postpartum care?
- How do I set boundaries with family and maintain my individuality while honouring collective ways of living?
- What kind of village do I want to form? Does that involve family or chosen family? Hired supports?
- What is important to me in my transition into parenthood? What are my values? How do I want to feel?
- What is coming up for me as I become a parent in the way I was parented? What do I want to repeat and what do I want to change?
- How do I want to be held?
It also contains:
- Non-denominational, universal postpartum rituals and ceremonial options
- Recipes for the golden month
- Guidance and ideas for honouring your placenta, and global traditions around it
- Journal prompts
- Scripts for calling in your village and setting boundaries with family
- Symbology in birth and postpartum
- Background on the concept of the “golden month” and importance of rest, nourishment, and warmth across traditions
It can be difficult to be inclusive of all experiences when speaking to the specificity of a certain type of experience. I would like to acknowledge that the title includes the word “mother” for brevity and to hold space for the archetypical journey a woman goes through, but is open to anyone who connects with being a parent, birthing person, or mother in all forms – as well as for birth workers who would like to learn more about how to support their clients. It is also open to anyone on the journey of preconception or re-parenting themselves who is curious to explore this topic of matrescence. And it may be helpful to anyone who is supporting a loved one on this journey (partners, friends, and family members).
